Consistency
A few days ago, I visited a sparse forest area. Most of
the trees had dried out because of the excessive heat and the scarcity of
water. The localities claimed that water canals were formed within the forest
during the rains while it remained dry during the summers. Later, I observed
that the trees on the shores of these alleged canals were quite leafy. Far from
these canal routes, I saw a tree whose trunk was burnt for about 3 feet from
the ground level. Certainly, due to the intensive heat waves and the scarcity
of water beneath the ground, soaked up all the remaining moisture of the tree's
veins, causing it to dry out. Surprisingly, when I looked up it had lush green
leaves. The tree could have given up on its growth after the adversity it faced
when its trunk was set on fire, sometime in the summer when most of the forest,
with soaked up trees, was ablaze, on the other hand, it must have expanded its
roots further into the ground until it found moisture and groundwater. The tree
taught me consistency by not giving-in to adversities.
In the book "Wings of Fire" written by The
Missile Man of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam quotes one of his father's teachings,
"Adversity presents an opportunity for introspection". In an
implausible situation, we have two choices: either to find a way to surpass the
hurdles or to turn our back from the unfeasible journey. As said by the famous
Football player and coach, Vince Lombardi, "Winners never quit and
quitters never win". Besides, the act of skipping the hardships can't go
on until eternity. It should be understood that a dark night is always followed
by a brighter morning. At the same time when you push your strengths to
overcome adversity you upgrade your self-confidence and develop a stronger
determination to reach the destination. Success is pulled closer when you take
a step forward and decide to achieve the unachievable.
Life is a long journey. However, it might be longer for
some. Nevertheless one should move ahead faithfully and with unshaken
determination. No matter how challenging it seems to embrace the defeat and
fight for the battle of success, one should never abandon hope and surrender. Irrespective
of age, everyone experiences setbacks in life. But the consistent marching
towards the end destination is always rewarded with success.
The proverbial phrase, "Is the glass half empty or
half full?" has been heard by us at least once in our lifetimes. In the unattainable
conditions, we can understand our sense of perception through the same
expression. This introspection helps us in shaping our perspectives
optimistically, leading us to an action-plan.
Lastly, I would like to quote an American writer Dale
Carnegie, who says, "Most of the important things in the world have been
accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope
at all".
